The European Union on Tuesday banned most of Iran Air's jets from flying to Europe because of safety concerns, emphasizing that the move was not related to United Nations sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program.

The 27-nation bloc also relaxed restrictions on two airlines from Indonesia and put a Suriname airline on its blacklist of carriers the EU believes do not meet international safety standards.
The list of 278 airlines — mostly small operations from Africa and Asia — was established in 2006 and is updated regularly.
Iran Air's Boeing 727s and 747s, along with its Airbus 320s, have been placed on the EU blacklist following a safety audit, Transport Commission spokeswoman Helen Kearns said.
'Our controls focus entirely on safety, nothing else.'—Helen Kearns, European Transport Commission
Kearns denied that the move, which affects two-thirds of Iran Air's fleet, had anything to do with international sanctions.
"We deal purely with safety requirements," she said. "Our controls focus entirely on safety, nothing else."
Iran Air has had trouble properly maintaining its aging Boeing 747 and 727 jets purchased in the 1970s because of a 30-year-old U.S. ban on spare parts.
The airline — together with a cargo and a low-cost subsidiary — has more than 60 planes in its inventory. Plans call for many of its older airliners still in service to be replaced by Russian-built Tu-204 medium-range jets starting in 2011.
Iran Air flies to about 60 destinations, mainly in Asia and Europe. Its extensive domestic network covers nearly two dozen airports.
This Boeing 737, which was headed to Iran carrying 90 people, crashed shortly after takeoff in August 2008 near the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek. The plane belonged to the Kyrgyz company Itek Air, which was banned from operating in the European Union's airspace because of failure to meet safety and aviation standards. Kearns said two more Indonesian carriers, Metro Batavia and Indonesia Air Asia, have been removed from the latest list of banned airlines, bringing to six the number of Indonesian airlines allowed to operate in Europe.
Three years ago, after a spate of deadly crashes, all Indonesian airlines were excluded from European airspace.
Kearns said Suriname's Blue Wings Airlines has also been placed on the revised blacklist. Although the airline does not fly to Europe, it has routes to the Dutch Antilles and French Guiana.
Critics of the list say most of the notorious African fly-by-night cargo outfits still on the EU list have long since been shut down. Many of the others involve air taxi services or small, specialized charter firms that work for mining, oil and gas and other natural resources companies, usually to transport employees to remote work sites.
The crash last month in Cameroon of a chartered plane carrying the entire board of an Australian mining company highlighted the lack of uniform safety standards among the multitude of small aviation operators serving the industry.

The Tupamaros are a pro-government motorcycle gang that has been terrorizing citizens of Caracas during the recent unrest. To counteract them, protesters came up with this method – plastic bags filled with a mixture of fuel oil and gasoline, or liquid soap, are tossed onto the pavement to create instant oil slicks. Here’s the result.

Para contrarrestarlos, los manifestantes se acercó con este método – bolsas de plástico llenas de una mezcla de fuel oil y la gasolina, o jabón líquido, se lanzan sobre el pavimento para crear manchas de petróleo instantáneos. A short length of garden hose + several nails produces a caltrop. Any way it’s dropped on the ground, at least 1 spike will protrude upward, ready to pierce the tires of a motorcycle gang or a police vehicle. Cheap AND effective!

“Consequences and Anarchy.” The Death of Hugo Chavez Frias
By Dolar Paralelo Economia Venezuela
http://dolarparaleloeconomiavenezuela.blogspot.com/
Having Hugo Chavez dead by a missile strike to his presidential plane is no surprise.
This though could easily happen, but what are the consequences and the ripple effect that can easily destroy Venezuela and create a civil war.
How could Hugo Chavez Frias die?
1) A bullet shot in the head from one of his officers or a sniper. Probability 25%
2) Food poison or arsenic. Probability 3%
3) Airplane crash hit by a missile. Probability 60%
4) Assassination attempt by a civilian. Probability 2%
5) Health causes. Probability 5%
6) Car bomb. Probability 5%
Consequences:
1) Cuban government moves in and a civil war in Venezuela will erupt. Having the Cuban security forces fighting; “los patriotas”
2) More than half or 80 % of the military will rebel with the current regime loyal to Hugo Chavez Frias and a coup can start in a moments notice.
3) If a regime change happens or when it happens the bilateral cooperation with Cuba will stop. Venezuela will lose hundreds of millions of dollars.
4) Looting and killings will be in the hundreds. Food will be scarce. Keep one week’s of food supply.
5) Cubans assessors living in Venezuela will be imprisoned or executed by the armed forces ”los patriotas” and civilians.
6) Chavista supporters will be killed by mobs, executed or imprisoned by the populace. The military who supported the Chavez Movement will be spared in this case.
7) The Family of Hugo Chavez Frias will either be executed, killed or imprisoned for life by the new established goverment.
From a source, the armed forces are not happy of how Hugo Chavez Frias is leading Venezuela and has imprisoned or have left the country more than 300 military officers and 700 dissidents.
Like any dictator his regime will come to an end and this time and in a moments notice any of these scenarios can happen. The probabilities are 100%. Its just a matter of time.
And los patriotas have their Lucio Quincio Cincinato this time.
